These will also be handed out at Back To School Night (Oct. 8th) and Next Schools Parent & Student Information Night (Oct. 15th)
In Language Arts, we began with an overview of what we already know about the Holocaust and then brainstormed questions we have and what we hope to learn in preparation of our first book, Night by Elie Wiesel. Students learned about the author, who was one of the first individuals to write publicly about his experience of the Holocaust and who also won the Nobel Peace Prize for his writing. We additionally discussed prejudice and then wrote about our own experiences of bias. Students are simultaneously learning about the historical context of this time in history in their Global Studies class. We’ll spend the next couple weeks examining human behavior, moral responsibility, understanding, and the importance of using history as a learning tool while reading Night and preparing for their first multi-draft essay.
Lastly, in preparation of our upcoming 8th grade class jobs, we discussed how to professionally complete and edit an application and how to prepare for a formal interview.
